Ruins of Přimda Castle
Přimda is the ruins of the oldest known stone castle in the Czech Republic. It is located above the village of the same name between Bor and Rozvadov. The ruin is protected as a national cultural monument of the Czech Republic. The State Castle is managed by the National Monument Institute and is open to the public.
It was probably Přimda, in its stone form, founded by the Czech Prince Vladislav I to protect the borders. The first mention of the castle dates back to 1126 when the castle was rebuilt (together with Tachov and Zhořelec) by Prince Sobeslav I. From the beginning, Přimda also fulfilled the role of a state prison. In 1249 he tried Prison and Přemysl Prison (future King Přemysl Otakar II) after a revolt against his father and King Wenceslas I
During the 14th century, Přimda Castle became the center of some 15 villages, whose inhabitants were obliged to watch the border. For Jan Lucembursky, Primda, in exchange for cash, was arrested by nobility. Charles IV. as part of efforts to consolidate the ruler’s power and its support – the royal castles – Přimda paid off, and it has become one of the castles that must remain kings. In the following period, however, Přimda was stopped again.
In 1454 Přimda was placed in the custody of Švamberk. In their hands Přimda remained until 1592. The brothers Adam and Jindřich of Švamberk in 1548 divided the manor and the castle, while Adam became the so-called upper castle, while Jindřich’s lower castle (upper and lower castle were separated by a longitudinal rock crest). In the 16th century, Šmamberk was destroyed by Přimda and no partial repairs, and some new economic buildings did not improve the state of the castle. Some parts of the castle were also destroyed.
In 1609, the castle was already declared desolate, demolished and deserted. In 1711, a lightning strike hit the residential tower, and then its southwest part collapsed down to the ground level.
Since the mid-19th century, security work has been done on the donjon, which has helped him to save. Some parts, however, are practically a new building.
Tour Circuit “Hrad” offers a tour of the lower and upper courtyards, a 12th-century annex with a guide to the interior of a residential tower.
